Is Suu Safe? Who Is Behind It, How Your Data Is Protected (and How to Check for Yourself)
Published: · Furkan Mert Fındıklı · 6 min read
Short answer: Yes. Suu is built by a small independent team of two in Istanbul and run by a sole proprietorship registered for tax in Turkey; it grew inside BTM, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce's startup incubator, and completed the programme. Your data is processed under GDPR and Turkey's KVKK, encrypted with AES-256 and never sold, and you can delete your account at any time.
“Is it safe to give this app my weight, my meals and my health data?” is exactly the right question. Calorie and water trackers collect sensitive data, and some apps don't make it clear who is behind them.
Below we explain who is behind Suu, which official registrations it has, how your data is protected — and how you can verify each point yourself.
Who builds and runs Suu?
Suu is built by a small independent team of two in Istanbul: founder and developer Furkan Mert Fındıklı and software developer Mert Öz. It isn't an agency product or an anonymous overseas company; the developer name in the app stores is the founder's own name.
The app is run by a sole proprietorship registered for tax in Turkey, and the business holds an official permit issued by its local municipality. The privacy policy names the same person as the data controller.1
Store identity: developer Furkan Mert Findikli · com.sutakip.suutakippro · App Store ID 6757619920. The account deletion page lists the same details.2
A startup that grew inside BTM
Suu grew inside BTM (Bilgiyi Ticarileştirme Merkezi), the startup incubator of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, and completed the BTM programme.3 BTM gives startups training, mentoring and investor meetings.
In other words, Suu isn't an anonymous project that appeared overnight; it developed as an identifiable startup through an official programme.
How is your data protected?
Everything below is stated in Suu's public privacy policy.1
- Legal framework: Your data is processed under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Turkey's personal data protection law (KVKK).4
- Encryption: Sensitive data is encrypted with AES-256; all data transfers use SSL/TLS; the infrastructure is Google Firebase.
- No sale of data: Your data is not sold to advertisers, ad networks or data brokers, and is not used for targeted advertising or profiling.
- Your voice stays on your phone: Voice input is converted to text on your device; the audio is never sent to Suu's servers.
- Your photos are not stored: In photo analysis (Premium) the image is sent to the AI service (Google Gemini) only for the moment of analysis; Suu doesn't save it — only the calorie and macro result is written to your account.
- Health data only with permission: Apple Health and Health Connect are accessed only for the data types you allow.
- Location is optional: Only approximate location is used, to adjust your water goal for the weather.
- Age: The app is designed for users aged 13 and over.
You stay in control of your data
GDPR and KVKK give you the right to access, correct, delete and port your data and to object to its processing.1,4
